Attendees: Aren Cambre (Secretary), Terry Syler (VP), Andrea Hosterman (MAL), Will White (President), Lucy White (VP Communications), Eric Tinsley (Monument Committee)
General meting called to order at 7:16 PM by Will White
Allocation of funds…
If extra money from monument insurance payout, should we allocate it to other projects? Discussion. Concern about appearance of monuments: one very new, one 50 years old. What is the proper management of money? No decisions made, so money stays in bank.
Treasurer: Aren read treasurer’s report (emailed earlier). It should be noted that $320 received dues/$20 = 16 homes paid up. We would get $5,600 if everyone joined.
Dues increase? $20 annual dues. Bylaws say that $24/yr is max without bylaw change. Would bigger membership drive create results? Idea: dues solicitation with SASE? Will wait until after block party to consider this.
LPE Block Party: will spend $40 to deliver 2 flyers. $92 for barricades (normally $0.40 per day, but there is a minimum $85 order). $378 left over. Two bounce houses, both donated. Face painter: trying to get it so that she charges for paints, and LPENA not paying her. Palm reader suggested?
Invitees:
- Gary Griffith
- DPD Crime Watch Division
- Kathy Davis, code enforcement for City of Dallas
- Fire department
- Others?
LPENA to provide onions, peppers, meats, tortillas, rice, beans. No cheese provided because concerns about cost and keeping cheeses cold. Meat coming from La Michoacana at Gus Thomasson and Ferguson. Fajita meat, marinated, is apparently $3/lb from this place. Expected that 1 lb feeds 2 people, so 70 lbs = 140 people. Will add phone number to flyer for RSVP. Will expect that 2X RSVPs will feed all attendees.
Need tables, chairs, tarp.
Selling cookie dough for the neighborhood for a fundraiser. (50% of proceeds for neighborhood.)
No raffle, no logo design contest for now.
2 pinatas to be purchased.
Discussion about the band. Lucy knows of a band that may play very inexpensively.
It’s expected that the meat store is open until well into the evening, so we could get more meat if necessary. Will wait for RSVPs and make judgment call. Just beef fajitas. No chicken.
Should there be better face to face advertisement of block party? Board personally distribute flyers? Once face to face, one with kids? Consensus is that kids will pass out flyers, but board members should make personal effort to get people to the party.
Monument
North monument on Garland Rd. already bleached, will also be acid washed.
It is expected that all existing letters can be reused on south monument.
Concern expressed about appearance of two sides. Eric wants us to wait until after the acid wash to see how well the two sides match.
Code Enforcement
Miscellaneous issues raised. 1095 Waterford: too many cars, dumpster in house.
Lots of brush on Garland Rd. behind Galway. Should take Cathy Davis over there and show her the problem.
Communications
“Tired and pregnant.” Spent 2 hours delivering newsletter with teenagers.
Board requested that newsletter should have total number of members on front and total households in neighborhood.
Little Forest Hills newsletter: 20 pages! Using ideas from Little Forest Hills. How-to articles, interesting stuff, etc.
Will not be able to do newsletter after baby is born in 2 months.
board@lakeparkestates.org: can email board.
neighbors@lakeparkestates.org: can email all listed neighbors.
