IMPORANT NOTE: This meeting did not meet quorum, so nothing in these minutes represents binding decisions by the board. Two budget requests were made by beautification; these will be voted on by LPENA board over email.
In attendance:
Will called meeting to order at 7:40 PM.
Picnic
Plans are to rent a bounce house. Estimated cost is $100, but it could be as high as $150.
Since this picnic is the day before Halloween, there will be a kids’ costume contest with prices. Cindy Syler will put prizes together. 3 prizes total, will include $50 worth of gift certificates.
Estimate that prizes, candy (for children), and decorations will be $75.
Picnic will be advertised through newsletter and signs. The newsletter will go out on or around Oct. 15 to serve the dual purpose of the regular newsletter and the flyer for the picnic.
LPENA will provide buns, water, condiments, plates, and other miscellaneous stuff. Albertsons has provided meats in the past. Board asks Terry Syler to talk to Albertsons about this since he has done it in the past and has a relationship with Albertsons management.
Overall budget of $275 requested for picnic.
Crime Watch Signs
12”x18” signs were put up, but there is a concern about the lettering being too small. Bridget says that 5 more signs are needed, and she will look into 18”x24” (the largest size) for the remainder of the signs. Will also look into replacing existing signs with larger signs. Need to see if company will allow us to return existing signs.
Holiday Lights Contest
Judging on December 20.
Prizes to be awarded if we can get donations from local hardware places (Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Ace?). Idea was suggested for LPENA to buy gift certificates, but yearly expense was too much.
Will purchase signs from Party City for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places. We will call these places gold, silver, and bronze. (Aren’s idea of Uranium, Platinum, and Lead was shot down. Drat!!!)
Budget of $30 requested for signs plus an additional $20 for flyer distribution. With tax, total budget request is $60.
Welcome Basket
Discussion about what welcome basket is and how to get it active again.
Galway Circle
Discussion about landscaping issues.
Home Tour
Home tour idea will be shelved this year due to lack of time. It is recommended that LPENA Board pick this up again in January for Dec. 2005. Need a non-board member to lead this.
Membership Drive
Need to wait until after Jan. 1, 2005.
Garland/Buckner
Submitted recommendations to TxDOT, Gary Griffith, and City of Dallas. Scott Williams of Dallas told Gary Griffith that many of the recommendations are not doable. A meeting is being set up with Gary Griffith, TxDOT, City of Dallas, and the 3 member Garland/Buckner committee to discuss these problems.
Will White will bring finalized Garland/Buckner brochure to picnic.
