Summer Block Party Post Mortem –
$800.00 budgeted, spent $697.26. Got great reviews from all who attended. Suggest moving party to May next year. Suggest bringing this up at February Board Meeting. Also suggest getting about 70 pounds next year. We got 50 pounds this year and we ran out at end. We need to publish Nortena Meat Market information in next newsletter with their store location, phone number, etc… in appreciation for donated meat. Also recognize face painters, fire department, Gary Griffith, Bounce House Vendor, and Band.
Terry France arrived 7:55PM – Surveillance System –
Other neighborhood has realized an 80% reduction in property crime after installation of camera system.
Several options are available and range from $200.00 per camera, up to $1,500.00 per camera. Plus need to be able to have power, Internet Connections, etc… Per Rory, surveillance signs are about $40.00 per sign. Can be used as a theft deterrent. Cameras can legally be used to monitor pubic areas. Camera’s can be most useful to help monitor trends of people casing the neighborhoods, so they can adjust their patrols accordingly.
Need to determine several things, where would they be most effective, how many, can they be moved. Lake Park Estates has 8 Entrances. Suggested to start with a couple camera’s with PCMCIA flash memory to store video feeds. Types with Motion Activated recording are about $2000.00. Suggested to install mounting poles at all 8 entrances/exits and rotate cameras on a routine basis. Camera’s can be solar powered as well. There is also a possibility of theft of the camera’s themselves. Possible to have some local companies to sponsor some of the funding for our security implementation. Most camera’s do not have a “watermark authentication” for court purposes. Higher priced cameras do have time stamp/watermark which can be used for prosecution in a court of law.
Suggestions:
Terry France is going to a security vendor conference next month and will report back with any new technologies that we may be able to use.
Still need to get neighborhood consensus on whether this system would be accepted in the neighborhood.
Other security measures to take:
Suggested to create a company directory to use as tool to help promote communications between neighbors and help alert them to suspicious activity.
Also testing alerting email list that can send text messages to cell phones and email if suspicious activity noticed.
